The BYU students assigned to our branch have been given assignments that we don't have enough members to accomplish--like teaching missionary prep, teacher development, investigator class, or Young Men/Young Women. Jessica, the BYU student was assigned to work with Samah (our Sunday School teacher) to help her improve her teaching skills.
One big problem -- we haven't seen our Samah since. For three weeks she hasn't shown up for church or notified anyone she wasn't coming. (This is a very typical thing to do for all the members) As a result, the ball has been dropped in the Jessica's lap. The first week she cried all through the lesson. Big tears kept running down her cheeks as she tried to teach in Arabic and struggled to translate. It's not an easy thing to do. The next week when Samah didn't come, Jessica taught the last minute lesson and did a little bit better. Today, when it happened again, she taught a great lesson--switching back and forth between English and Arabic. It was amazing to watch the tremendous amount of growth in Jessica that has taken place in just three short weeks.
President Monson has said, "whom the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies." We know from our own experience that this is true. Hard things can become easy if we rely on him, and if we try.
