Sunday (not the Sabbath) at the Clinic

Our assignment with the Diabetic Retinopathy Project today was to be at the North Clinic in Ramtha.  We took four of the students from JUST and set up our table for blood sugar testing in the entry of the building.  Their names were Muna and Hiah and Ali and Hussen.

The students practiced their skills on me.  They pricked all my fingers and tried to draw blood, but it was difficult.  It must be the cold weather or something.  I told them that Americans really do have blood.  Some guy said "America?  . . . Obama!!" and held his thumbs up.

This cute little girl came in to the clinic we talked to her while she waited for her mother.  Her name is Sarah and she's three years old.  She sang a big long Arabic song for us.  It was so cute.  We loved her hat.

There are a lot of Syrian refugees living in Ramtha because it's so close to the border.  Everyone has a sad story.  We learned from one of the students who speaks English that this woman's house was blown up.  She told us "boom!!" and threw her hands up in the air.  We said "sorry."

Outside the clinic we could hear the bombs going off in the distance, but nobody was paying much attention.  Life just goes on.

This camel could care less.
